STANDISH, Maine - Emmanuel women's lacrosse had their season and title defense come to an end Saturday, falling in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship game, 12-3, at Saint Joseph's of Maine at the SJC Athletic Complex. The Saints chance at back-to-back championships ends, as they finish the year at 15-6.
The Monks offense was off to a hot start, opening the game with five goals in the first quarter. Meanwhile, the SJC defense was stout and unrelenting, holding the Saints offense off the board in the opening half, as the Monks led 7-0 at halftime.
Saint Joseph's led extended in the third, scoring the first two tallies of the frame, to take a 9-0 advantage. Sophomore Emilia Ferraro broke through five minutes into the third, getting the Saints on the board.
Despite more chances in the second half, the Monks kept Saturday's title game out of reach for Emmanuel, as SJC is headed for the NCAA Tournament following the 12-3 victory.
Ferraro scored a pair for the Saints while fellow sophomore Anna Nichols added the Saints only other goal. Seniors Halle Miller, Avery Robillard, and Madeline Wright were all voted to the GNAC All-Tournament Team following the game.
The Monks will figure out their opponent for the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the selection show on Monday, May 4 at 9:30 a.m.
