BROOKLINE, Mass. – Saints men's golf scored its first stroke play team victory of the season, battling through a blustery Friday afternoon at the EC Invite, hosted at Brookline Golf Course. It's the second victory of the season for the program after the Saints won the opening event of the year, the Alling Match Play Challenge at Albertus on Sept. 1.
Sophomore
Sean Fenton earned his first career medalist honors on Friday, shooting a seven-over round of 77 to claim the individual title. Fenton was +6 through his opening 9 holes, but back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13 helped him to a back side of 36, on his way to the one-shot win.
Senior
Ryan Brunet was one shot back, finishing in a tie for second with a round of 78. Junior
Andrew Lavoie scored a solo-fourth place with an afternoon of 79. First-year
William Provost was the final counting score for the Saints on the day, as the rookie shot 81.
With their team total of 315, the Saints won by 13 shots over second place Albertus Magnus. Lasell University finished third with Mitchell College placing fourth in this all-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown.
The Saints have two events remaining on their fall schedule, starting with the Keene State Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 29. That will serve as the final warm-up to the GNAC Championship, hosted at Country Club of Barre on Oct. 5 and 6.
