Joao Ramos scored one of the latest game-winners in the last five seasons, helping the Saints to a 1-0 win over the Rivier Raiders in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on a rainy Monday night at Joanne Merrill Field. The win moves the Saints to 2-5-2 (1-2-1 GNAC), while the Raiders drop to 2-4-2 (1-2-1 GNAC).
The visitors earned a free kick in the 88th minute in the attacking third from 30 yards from goal toward the top corner of the penalty area. Junior
Rafael Matamoros sent in a right-footed cross, which was headed down by fellow junior
Luis Pimental near the six-yard box. The loose ball found Ramos, who had a wide open net to tap in his first career collegiate goal, a give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
The 88th-minute goal, officially scored with 2:12 remaining, is the third latest game-winner scored by the Saints in the regular season since the rules eliminating overtime in the regular season took effect in 2022.Â

David Derk earned his first career collegiate win, while making a career-high eight saves in the Emmanuel net. The Raiders attempted 21 shots on Monday night, with eight finding the target, but all of which were turned away by Derk.
The Saints are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 30, hosting Mitchell on Clemente Field at 7:00 p.m.
