Women’s Volleyball Stays Hot with Thrilling Win over RIC, 3-1

BOSTON, Mass. - Women's Volleyball (10-2, 4-0) extends the winning streak to eight after downing Rhode Island College (6-7, 0-1). The Little East Conference foe was able to take a set off the Saints, the first Emmanuel lost set since September 16th, but it was first year Delilah Davis who kept Emmanuel afloat and propelled them to another victory.

In the first, the Anchormen held a 7-5 advantage before Sofia Petrucci stepped into serve, and swung the momentum back over to the home team. Emmanuel won the next five points, taking a 10-7 advantage.

The Saints lead grew to as much as seven with a 21-14 lead, but RIC would not back down. The Anchormen won eight of the next nine points, stunning Emmanuel and forcing a rare timeout. RIC took a 24-23 lead, before Letitia Bossou and Brianna Quinlan secured some crucial kills, allowing Emmanuel to take the first set by a score of 26-24.

RIC maintained a lead throughout the second set, holding Emmanuel off until an attack error finally gave the lead over to the home team at 17-16. The Anchormen would recover, stealing the second set.

The Saints response proved to be a good one, putting on a clinic in the third frame. Emmanuel posted a .391 attack percentage, and doubled up the visiting RIC with a final score of 25-12.

In the fourth and final frame, the visitors took the momentum early, and a 9-5 lead. Emmanuel would inch back into it, as a kill from Danielle Burkett knotted up the score at 13.

Later on, Emmanuel led by a score of 22-19 over the reeling Anchormen, where the play of the night occurred. Junior Ava Olsen made a mad dash towards the stands to save the ball, setting it up perfectly for a loud Bossou kill to extend the lead to 23-19. The Saints would then finish off RIC, with a score of 25-20 to post yet another win on the season.

Junior Letitia Bossou led the way with 18 kills, while first year Delilah Davis posted 12, including six of those kills in the fourth and final set. Senior Kason Huynh tallied 26 assists on the night, to go with six digs.

Women's volleyball returns to Andy Yosinoff Court for a tri-match on Saturday, with Mass Maritime and Norwich coming into town. The Saints will clash with Mass Maritime at 10:00 AM, and Norwich at 2:00 PM.
