Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Women's Volleyball (2-1-0) picked up their first two wins of the new campaign on Friday afternoon, sweeping FDU-Florham, and John Jay College. It was a hard fought day for Emmanuel, playing nine of ten possible sets to secure the two wins, but a career day from Letitia Bossou sealed the undefeated doubleheader.

Game One: Emmanuel 3 FDU 1
In the first match of the day, the Saints came out firing, scoring the first seven points of the set. After back to back service aces from Junior Ava Olsen put Emmanuel up a staggering 10-1. The Saints lead never dropped to below nine the rest of the set, as they finished a dominating opening window with a 25-12 victory.

The Devils would not go down easy, as they punched back in the second frame. A kill from Anya Panesar put the Devils up 6-3, forcing the Saints to play from behind early in this set. FDU's lead grew to as much as seven in the set (12-5), but the Saints would counter with their biggest run of the day, a 9-0 sprint. This allowed the visitors to grab a 14-12 lead, highlighted by back-to-back loud kills from Kason Huynh. Later in the set with both teams knotted at 19 all, a service ace from Panesar sparked a short 4-0 run for the Devils, but it was enough to hold off Emmanuel, as they took the second set by a score of 27-25, tying up the match at one a piece.

The Devils took the momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 4-0 advantage early on. The Saints clawed back to take their first lead of the set at 10-9 behind a kill from first year Kennedy Horne. The Saints held a 22-20 advantage late in the third set, when a thunderous block by Bossou gave Emmanuel the cushion they needed, going up by three. This allowed the visitors to take the third set thriller, 25-23.

The fourth frame featured more of the same, a back and forth affair with neither side able to grab the reins. A huge kill from Genevieve Fitch gave the Devils a 22-20 advantage, as they appeared poised to extend this match to a deciding fifth set. But Bossou had other plans, scoring the next four of the next five points in the match, all off kills. The Devils were unable to recover, allowing the Saints to take the final set by a score of 25-23, starting the day off in the victory column.

Bossou led the way with a career-high 23 kills, Huynh tallied nine kills to go along with 30 assists. Sophomore Sofia Petrucci also enjoyed a nice performance with 29 digs and 7 assists.

Game Two: Emmanuel 3 John Jay 2
The opening set between the two teams featured a back and forth affair, with neither side able to gain control until midway through the frame. The Saints were holding a 12-11 slim lead, when a 3-0 mini-run gave them the cushion they needed. Back-to-back service aces by Ayla Evans bumped the lead to four at 19-15, and Emmanuel did not look back, as a kill by Evans gave the visitors a 25-23 victory.

The second set was dominated by the bloodhounds, after jumping out to a 9-4 advantage, the lead never changed sides, allowing John Jay to knot up the match at one a piece. The Saints only converted six of their 25 total attack attempts in the period. The third set appeared to be heading in the same direction as the first, as John Jay hopped out to an 8-4 lead. But, four of the next six points in the set would belong to the Saints, as they looked to steal momentum.

Trailing 21-18, an aggressive kill from Bossou sparked a Saints run, as the team would go on a 6-0 dash to take control 24-21, ultimately taking the set by a score of 25-22.
The Bloodhounds did not back down, as the fourth set was all John Jay. Emmanuel never seemed to get their footing, allowing the opposing John Jay to take the set decisively by a score of 25-18.

In a winner take all fifth set, it was Bossou who once again came up clutch, tallying five points in the frame, including the game sealing solo block to secure the sweep on the day for the blue and gold. The Saints never trailed in the final set, stacking the lead to as high as five at 7-2, ultimately winning with a final score of 15-12.

Bossou led the charge for Emmanuel, tallying 18 kills and five total blocks. Kason Huynh recorded an impressive stat line with nine kills, 27 assists and nine digs. Emmanuel returns to the court when they travel to Salve Regina on Thursday, September 10th for a 7:00 PM first serve.
