John Shimer joined the Emmanuel staff in February 2024, becoming the fourth Men’s Soccer Head Coach in program history. In addition to his responsibilities with the team, Shimer also serves as the Clemente Field Coordinator.

Shimer comes to Emmanuel from Boston College and Endicott, where he split responsibilities as Assistant Coach and Director of Camps and Operations.

In his first season at the helm, Shimer led a program tabbed to finish sixth in the preseason poll to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinal Round, coming within minutes of securing the first Championship Game appearance in Emmanuel men’s soccer history.

Shimer and the Saints finished the 2024 season at 10-6-3, marking just the second time in team history the Saints finished the year with double-digit wins. Their 9-3-2 GNAC record gave them the No. 4 seed and the right to host a home GNAC playoff game for the first time in program history.

Among the 10 wins in 2024, the Saints victories over the University of Saint Joseph and Norwich marked the first time the team ever defeated those programs. In addition, Emmanuel’s victory over Saint Joseph’s College in September broke a nine-year winless drought against the Monks.

After brief stints with Ohio Wesleyan and Endicott, Shimer founded the men’s soccer program at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass., in 2014 and served as the Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations for the Gators. Shimer added an Assistant Athletic Director role in 2015, serving in both roles until 2020.

With the Gators, Shimer held a 56-33-9 record over six seasons while winning two American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Conference Championships. During his tenure, Shimer coached 26 All-Conference Players, one ACAA Player of the Year, one ACAA Defensive Player of the Year, and two ACAA Freshman of the Year.

A resident of Reading, Mass., Shimer graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 2005. He holds several coaching diplomas and is CPR-certified.
