SAINTS EASE PAST MONKS

Boston, MA - The Emmanuel College Women's Basketball Team improved to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with an 84-53 victory over the visiting Monks of Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Monday afternoon. The Monks fell to 10-5 on the season and picked up their first conference loss with a 3-1 mark in the GNAC.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead, scoring 17 points in the opening eight minutes, 14 of which came off fast break buckets. Emmanuel scored 38 points in transition for the game. Emmanuel's defense held the Monks scoreless from the floor for the first six minutes of the game. Saint Joseph's College did not score their first field goal until 13:28 in the opening stanza. The Saints took a 38-29 advantage into the break. Emmanuel extended its lead to 31 points in the 2nd half and closed out the game with their largest lead of the game.

The Saints were led by senior captain Jade Paez's (Bronx, NY) 20 points, 7 steals, and 4 assists. Sophomore guard Iman Davis (Toms River, NJ) pumped in 18 points on 8 for 14 shooting, and pulled down 6 rebounds. Senior guard Brittany Bushman (Portsmouth, NH) came off the bench to add 15 points in 15 minutes for Emmanuel. Senior captain Jacque Pannell (Bloomfield, CT) completed a quartet of double-figure scorers for the Saints, with 10 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.

Emmanuel scored 46 of their 84 points in the paint. The Saints out-rebounded the Monks by a margin of 20 (51-31). St. Joe's was led by rookie guard Casey Drake (Lebanon, NH), who hit for 12 points, connecting on all 3 of her field goal attempts and shooting 5 for 7 from the free throw line. Senior forward Marie Lint (Orono, ME) chipped in with 11 points for the visiting Monks.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday night (1/23), when they host the visiting Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University in the Jean Yawkey Center Gymnasium in a 7pm start.
