WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM TOPS WENTWORTH IN SEASON OPENER

BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore guard Kristin LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) scored 20 points to lead three Emmanuel players scoring in double figures, as the Saints cruised to a 78-56 win over the visiting Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday night in the Jean Yawkey Center. The win marked the season opener for the Saints (1-0), while the Leopards fell to 1-2 on the season.

Emmanuel shot 42% from the floor (30-71) and out-rebounded Wentworth by a 49-41 margin. The Saints jumped out to an early lead over the Leopards and took a 44-26 advantage into the break. Emmanuel forced 27 Wentworth turnovers and scored 23 points off the Leopards' errors.

LeBel knocked down 7 of 19 attempts from the floor, including 4 three-pointers, while dishing out 4 assists to lead the victors. Junior guard Iman Davis (Toms River, N.J.) recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Davis shot 50% from the floor ( 7-14) and dished out a game-high 7 assists.

Emmanuel's freshman guard Breanna Ockimey (Philadelphia, Penn.) had a strong performance in her collegiate debut. The rookie netted 14 points on 5 for 10 shooting and picked up 4 steals for the Saints. Freshmen forwards Liz Brooks (Charlton, Mass.) and Jasmine Jean Jacques (Jamaica, N.Y.) combined for 15 boards and 13 points in the win.

Sophomore forward Kirsten Vallone (Avon, N.Y.) paced the Leopards, notching a double-double with a game-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. Michelle Fauci (Boxford, Mass.), Sam Vinciguerra (Somersworth, N.H.), and Margo Ward (Mystic, Conn.) chipped in with 8 points apiece for Wentworth.

The Saints will host the Emmanuel College Invitational Tournament this weekend. Emmanuel will take on Randolph College (VA) on Saturday at 2:30pm. Wentworth is also back in action on Saturday. The Leopards travel to Suffolk University for a 1pm start.
