BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball Team cruised to a three-set sweep of Emerson College in the team's home opener on Thursday night in the Jean Yawkey Center. The Lions, who were playing in their first-ever intercollegiate match, were defeated 30-18, 30-7, and 30-17. With this win, the Saints improve to 2-2 on the season and 1-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
Sophomores Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and Matt Salvi (Trumbull, Conn.) led Emmanuel with 6 kills in 8 total attempts. Freshman Alexander Petty (Wayland, Mass.) notched 5 kills in 7 swings, while sophomore Keoni Rabaino (Tucson, Ariz.) tallied 5 kills in 6 swings. Rookie Michael Mottola (Quincy, Mass.) was perfect on offense, hitting 4 for 4, in the match.
Setters, Sean O'Connor (Hampstead, Mass.) and Michael Delsignore (Narragansett, R.I.), eached played a game and a half and dished out 15 and 13 assists, respectively. Sophomore captain Jacob DeLuise (Wakefield, R.I.) led the team on defense with 7 digs on the night. Sophomore Stephen Keeney (Snellville, Ga.) rattled off 17-straight points in the third set to seal the win for Emmanuel.
The Saints will play again on Saturday (1/24) in a tri-match at Newbury College. Emmanuel will face both, Newbury and Mount Ida College, in matches beginning at 12:30 p.m.
