WATERVILLE, Maine - Mike Jackson (New York, N.Y.) finished with 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists as the Emmanuel College Men's Basketball Team advanced to the title game of the Colby College Invitational with a 76-69 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium. This was the Saints' first win of the 2009-10 season. Emmanuel (1-3) will now meet Colby (5-0) in the championship game Sunday at 2 p.m., while Maine Maritime (1-3) takes on University of Maine at Augusta (6-3) in the consolation game at noon.
Isaiah Duke (Albany, N.Y.) added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Saints, who led 38-27 at halftime and held off a late MMA rally in the second half. Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) added 12 points, while Eric Spanbauer (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) had nine points and nine rebounds.
Paul Campbell (Camden, Maine) had 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half and added five assists for the Mariners. Sam Bell (Calais, Maine) had 17 points and four assists, while Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham, Maine) finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
Emmanuel had a 57-38 lead with 11:28 left in the second half only to see the Mariners go on a 29-11 run over the next 9:28 to cut the lead to 68-67 with two minutes remaining. Jackson hit a pair of free throws with 1:43 to play and Duke added two more free throws with one minute left as the Saints pulled away.
