VOLLEYBALL TEAM SHUTS OUT MUSTANGS, 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. - The Saints cruised to a shut-out win over Mount Ida College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's volleyball action played on Wednesday night. The Mustangs dropped their second consecutive match and their fifth in GNAC play, falling 3-0 to visiting Emmanuel College. The Saints eased past the Mustangs, winning 30-12, 30-16, and 30-19. Emmanuel improved to 9-8 on the season and 6-2 in division play, while Mount Ida fell to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the GNAC.

The Mustangs fell behind early and trailed the entire match. Senior captain Bryan McMenamin (Warminster, Mass.) led Mount Ida with 9 kills, 10 digs, and one block. Sophomore Thomas Belton (Springfield, Mass.) hammered five kills along with five digs. Sophomore Gary Alvarez (Springfield, Mass.) dished out 17 assists and five digs in the effort.

The offensive attack for the Saints was led by sophomore outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) with a match-high 22 kills. Junior setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) notched 25 assists and 7 digs. Junior captain Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, Va.) tallied five service aces in the win.

The Mustangs will travel to Tivoli, New York on Friday to compete in the Bard College Tournament over the weekend. Emmanuel will play next when the Saints host the highly competitive Raiders of Rivier College on March 3rd at 8pm in the Jean Yawkey Center.
