BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball Team downed Lasell College for the second time this season, defeating the Lasers 3-1 on Lasell's home court this Thursday night. The win for the Saints was their 11th of the season, as they improve to 7-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The loss dropped the Lasers to 9-5 on the year. Junior outside hitter Tyson Rietz (Granite Bay, Calif.) led the Saints with 17 kills, while classmate Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) recorded a double-double in the win.
The Saints jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Lasers, taking sets one and two, 30-26, 3-26. Lasell captured the third set, 30-27. Emmanuel then rebounded to take the fourth set, 30-27, and came away with the 3-1 win. This was the Saints' fifth-straight win and fourth-straight GNAC victory.
Rietz's 17 kills led the Emmanuel offense, as the junior hit .300 on the night, to go along with his 7 digs, 5 aces and 3 blocks. Abram's double-double included 13 kills and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, Va.) slammed down 11 kills and gathered 8 digs.
Defensively, junior captain Jake DeLuise (Wakefield, R.I.) picked up a match-high 17 digs to lead the back row, while Matt Salvi (Trumbull, Conn.) and Abram tallied 4 blocks apiece. Senior setter Taylor Lowe (Malibu, Calif) dished out 30 assists, while junior setter Sean O'Connor (Hampstead, N.H.) added 18 helpers in the win for Emmanuel.
The Saints will play over the weekend in the Endicott College Invitational Tournament. The Saints take on Hilbert College on Saturday at 3pm and then are slated to battle host Endicott College at 5pm.
