MILTON, Mass. - Curry College defeated Emmanuel College 2-1 on Wednesday night in the men's soccer season opener for both schools. The Saints struck first and held the lead for the opening fifty minutes of play, before the Colonels tied things up and then put in the game-winner late in the second half.

Emmanuel got on the board at the 30:55 mark on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Kevin Shirley (Madison, Conn.). The Colonels at the time held a 12-2 advantage in shots but couldn't seem to get anything past Emmanuel's junior keeper Patrick Froass (Oneida, N.Y.). Curry finished the half with 13 shots, four on goal, while the Saints tallied three shots, all on goal.

Curry wasted no time in the second half and managed to tie the game with just over five minutes of play gone by. Sophomore Brandon Martins (Attleboro, Mass.) scored off a cross from freshman Ephesien Simpson (Port-au-Prince, Haiti). The Colonels continued to outshoot the Saints and with under ten minutes remaining in the contest, Emmanuel's goalkeeper was called for a foul in the penalty box. Sophomore Devin Sadlers (Somerset, Mass.) was awarded the shot and earned the goal after he placed the ball in the top-right corner of the net. That goal would prove to be the game-winner, as the Colonels pulled off the 2-1 victory at home.

Freshman James Oliver (Hanover, Mass) got his first collegiate start in net for Curry and made four saves for the win. Froass notched eight saves for the Saints.

The Colonels will travel to Wheaton College for the Wheaton College Kick-Off Classic on Saturday, September 4th. Emmanuel will take on Newbury College this Saturday, September 4th. This game will be played at Pine Manor College and is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
