BOSTON, MASS. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team downed Lesley University, 3-0, Tuesday evening in non-conference play at the Jean Yawkey Center in Boston, Mass. With the win, the Saints notch their fifth consecutive and improve to 10-11 on the season while the loss drops the Lynx to 3-9 overall.
The Lynx jumped ahead early in the first set, taking a 3-1 lead following an ace by senior outside hitter Kayla Henry (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) but a kill by senior middle hitter Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) would put Emmanuel back on top, 5-4. The Saints would never trail again in the opening set en route to a 25-14 win.
In set two, the hosts jumped ahead early to a comfortable 7-2 lead behind kills from Stanton, senior outside hitter Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) and freshman right side hitter Kathryne Consavage (Derry, N.H.). The Lynx would close that gap, getting to within three points at 8-5 following a kill by junior outside hitter Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China) but it would be the closest they'd come for the remainder of the set as the Saints would cruise to the 25-16 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set three saw back-and-forth action early on with several ties throughout the game. The Lynx pushed ahead early on back-to-back kills by Henry before Emmanuel would deadlock the score at 3-3 following a Lesley hitting error. The two squads would continue to trade points, with the score tied at 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 11-11 and 12-12 before the Saints would take control of the set for good after a kill by Stanton gave them a 13-12 lead. Emmanuel would go on to capture the third set, 25-17 and take the match, 3-0.
Stanton led the way for the Saints record 14 kills on 16 attempts without an error for an impressive .875 hitting clip. Ross chipped in with nine kills and 10 digs while Consavage added three kills in the win. Senior setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) dished out a match-high 18 assists in the win while also record a match-high in digs with 12.
For the Lynx, Ortwein finished with a team-high of eight kills as well as 10 digs. Henry added six kills and six digs while junior setter Kaitlyn Miller (Leesport, Penn.) dished out 17 assists to go along with five digs.
The Saints will return to action on Thursday, October 6 when they head Keene, N.H. to take on Keene State College in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m. while the Lynx host Curry College at 7:30 p.m. the same night.
