SAINTS SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

BOSTON, Mass. - In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Emmanuel Men's Soccer team suffered its first loss of 2011, falling to the Lasers of Lasell College, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. After trailing, 1-0, for the first fifty-five minutes, the Lasers struck twice in the second half, enroute to the conference victory. Lasell, who was picked 3rd in the 2011 GNAC preseason poll, remains undefeated at 4-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Emmanuel drops to 2-1-4 on the season and 1-1 in the league.

Saints struck first, finding the back of the net just thirteen minutes into the contest. Senior captain Mathew Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) scored unassisted at 13:26 for his second goal of the season. Emmanuel would then take a 1-0 lead into the break at halftime.

The Lasers powered back in the second half and netted the equalizer just ten minutes into the frame. Freshman forward Noel Rix (Rye, N.H.) was assisted by Cedric Dybaud (Quincy, Mass.) at 55:35, knotting up the game at 1-1. With just eight minutes to play, Lasell scored the go-ahead marker, when junior forward Mike Skelton Conway, N.H.) was set up by Nery Guerra (Guatemala) at 82:11.

Lasell led Emmanuel in shots, 22-7 (11-4 SOG). Emmanuel's junior keeper Wilhelm Du Bois (Key Biscayne, Fla.) went the full ninety minutes between the pipes for the Saints. Du Bois suffered the loss, making 9 saves on the 11 Lasell shots on goal. Lasell's freshman keeper Aren Moorman (Somerset, N.J.) picked up the win for the Lasers, making 3 saves in the effort.

Emmanuel is back in action on Tuesday night, when the Saints host Curry College in a non-conference game beginning at 7pm on Clemente Field.
