SECOND HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT AS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO BOWDOIN, 79-64

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Despite a strong second half, the Emmanuel College women's basketball team was unable to make up a 23 point halftime deficit and eventually fell to Bowdoin College, 79-64, on Sunday afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears remain unbeaten at home this season (6-0) and improve to 9-3 on the year while the Saints fall to 7-4 with the loss.

The Polar Bears exceptional first half was sparked by first-year Sara Binkhorst who, in her first career start, was a perfect 4-4 from three-point range and 9-9 from the free throw line in the opening stanza. She had all of her team-high 21 points in the period as Bowdoin hit 7-10 from long range and carried a 51-28 lead into the break.

The Saints chipped away at the Bowdoin lead, closing the gap to single digits on a layup by junior forward Fiona O'Dwyerwith 4:27 to go. O'Dwyer hit another jumper to trim the lead to 69-63 with under 2:30 to play. That was as close as Emmanuel would get as Bowdoin hit 8-10 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

In addition to Binkhorst's career high in points, the rookie point guard added seven assists and six steals in the victory. Ellery Gould hit 10-12 free throws to finish with 17 points while adding eight rebounds, five assists and five steals. Anna Prohl pitched in 14 points off the bench for Bowdoin, while Jill Henrikson had 13 points and 10 boards.

Emmanuel was led by 21 points and 15 rebounds from O'Dwyer. Senior guard Meghan Kirwanhad 12 points in the loss. Emmanuel held a 47-37 edge on the glass, but hit just 1-10 from three-point range in the setback.

The Saints will return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel across the city to face GNAC foe Suffolk University at 7 PM while the Polar Bears are no idle until Friday when they travel to Medford, Mass. to take on Tufts University in a NESCAC matchup.
