BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College men's volleyball player Ashanti Jackson(Sacramento, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for his play during the week ending on February 11, it was announced this morning by the conference office. This marks the second consecutive week that Jackson has earned the honor as he was also named the ROW in the opening week of his collegiate career.
Last week, Jackson helped the Saints post a 2-0 mark by notching a pair of GNAC victories while averaging a team-best 4.25 kills per set. The outside hitter posted a gaudy .509 hitting percentage, hammering down 34 kills on 54 attempts while only recording five miscues. In a 3-0 victory over Wentworth, the Sacramento, Calif. native tallied a game-high 15 kills while also notching five digs and two block assists. On Feb. 9 vs. Johnson & Wales, Jackson smashed home a team-best 19 kills in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory.
In the early goings of the 2012 season, Jackson has already established himself as one of the top players in the GNAC, averaging 3.39 kills per set to rank sixth in the conference while his .382 hitting percentage is second best among the league leaders.
The Saints, who are ranked 14th in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association national poll, are currently 3-2 on the season and 3-0 in GNAC action. Emmanuel will return to the hardwood this evening when they travel down the road to face Emerson College in a conference match scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
