BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Saints (10-12, 9-6 GNAC)
dropped the Suffolk University Rams (8-15, 5-11 GNAC) in Great
Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball action on
Tuesday evening by a 93-76 score.
Junior Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) finished just shy of a
triple-double as he scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had a
career-high nine blocked shots in the game, but the Saints were
just too much for the Rams as they send Suffolk to their fourth
straight loss, while Emmanuel College improves to 9-6 in GNAC play
and a 10-12 overall season mark.
The Saints finished with four players scoring in double-digits
highlighted by a 29 point, 21 rebound effort by sophomore Theo
Robinson (Springfield, Mass.). Robinson was 14-for-18 shooting
from the field and collected 10 offensive rebounds and another 11
on the defensive side. His 21 boards also set a new single-game
rebounding recording, topping the previous mark of 19 which he also
held.
Robinson came right out of the gates recording a double-double
in the first seven minutes of action scoring 14 points and grabbing
10 boards quick. Emmanuel would take a 41-27 lead into halftime
with them, before storming out of the break with a 20-4 run through
the first six minutes of the second half to build their largest
lead of the evening at thirty points.
The Rams managed to make things interested as they were able to
close the gap to ten points with a little over two minutes
remaining on a three-pointer by junior Colin Halpin (Melrose,
Mass.) to cap a 14-3 run over a two minute span in the closing
minutes, but that was as close as the Rams could get.
Emmanuel benefitted from strong shooting as they were
56.3-percent as a team in a 52-point second half, while they held a
52-31 edge on the glass in the contest.
Junior Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) scored a team-high 25
points on the night for the Rams, while senior Justin Barall (East
Hampton, Conn.) netted 11 points.
Senior Isaiah
Duke (Albany, N.Y.) scored all 21 of his points in the contest
in the second half as he was 7-for-10 from the field over the final
twenty minutes and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw
line.
Junior Xavier
Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 17 points, while junior Michael
Mailhot (Norwich, Conn.) rounded out the Saints' scoring with
12 points and had a game-high five assists.
Both teams have upcoming GNAC contests as the league finalizes
it's 2011-12 season over the next two weeks. Emmanuel will host
Norwich University on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm, while Suffolk
is idle until next Tuesday when they host the Mount Ida College
Mustangs in their last regular season home contest at 7:30pm at the
Regan Gymnasium.
