Box Score 4 BOSTON, Mass. – Over the weekend, the Emmanuel College women's volleyball team competed at the MIT Invitational and returned to campus with a 1-3 record over the two days of action. Emmanuel was able to best Husson University, 3-0, while dropping its other three contests to Colby College, Connecticut College and the hosts MIT.
In the opening match, the Saints gave the host Engineers a run for their money in the first set only to eventually fall 28-26. MIT kept all the momentum en route to a 3-0 win despite seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage from junior outside hitter Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.).
EC's tough afternoon continued against Colby College as the Mules downed the Saints, 3-0, holding Emmanuel to a dismal .083 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) recorded a team-high seven kills in the loss.
The Saints were able to open Day 2 action with a convincing 3-0 victory over Husson University as sophomore middle hitter Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, Mass.) enjoyed a monster match with 15 kills on 17 swings for a gaudy .882 hitting percentage.
Emmanuel capped the weekend with a 3-0 loss to Connecticut College as Atkinson paced the squad with a team-high eight kills while sophomore setter Shannon Dudley (Morro Bay, Calif.) dished out 20 assists to go along with nine digs.
Junior libero Cara Callahan (Medway, Mass.) registered a total of 39 digs over the Invitational.
The Saints return to action tomorrow evening when they host Keene State College in a non-conference tilt scheduled for a 7:00 PM start at the Jean Yawkey Center Gymnasium.
