MEN'S VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS GNAC TRI-MATCH OVER EMERSON & ALBERTUS MAGNUS

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team stayed hot on Saturday afternoon by picking up a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference wins against Emerson College and Albertus Magnus College at Brown Plofker Gym. The Saints downed the Falcons 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 22-25, 25-9) before sweeping the host Lions 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-18). Emmanuel improved to 14-9 overall, 4-5 in the GNAC and has now won seven of eight matches. Emerson falls to 8-11 and 4-5 in the GNAC while the Falcons drop to 5-9 and 0-7 in GNAC play.

 Emerson Match, 3-0 WIN

The Saints used a balanced offensive attack that saw six players with five or more kills en route to a 3-1 win over the Falcons.

Senior outside hitter Barrett Wingard (York, Pa.) led the way with a match-high 12 kills while hitting an efficient .385 from the floor. Freshman opposite Kevin Orlsey (San Jose, Calif.) collected nine kills while freshman outside hitter Erik English (Simi Valley, Calif.) added eight kills and 10 digs. Senior libero Kevin Gallegos (Los Angeles, Calif.) registered a match-high 13 digs. Freshman setter Andres Saladrigas (Miami, Fla.) dished out 21 assists while junior setter Jorge Rojas (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 18 helpers.

For the Lions, Mark Piorkowski posted a team-best 10 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.

Albertus Magnus Match, 3-1 WIN

After taking the opening two sets, the Saints gave the third back to the Falcons 25-22 but regrouped for a dominating performance in the fourth set with a 25-9 score to seal the GNAC victory. During the fourth set, Emmanuel combined to hit .591 as a team from the floor while holding Albertus Magnus to just three kills.

Wingard led the way with 13 kills and an impressive .667 hitting percentage while senior outside hitter Drew Jordan (Braintree, Mass.) and English each added nine kills in the win. English also tallied a team-best 13 digs while Saladrigas passed out a season-high 28 assists in the win.

For the Falcons, Justin Tharau collected 13 kills and 15 digs for a double-double.

Next up, the Saints host Albertus Magnus on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:00 PM in the Jean Yawkey Center.
