THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's basketball team never trailed Sunday's 69-50 win over Moravian University in the 2021 EC Tip-Off Classic Championship game played in Boston, Mass. Senior forward Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) earned tournament MVP honors after posting a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds in the final.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After trading hoops to open action, the Saints took the lead for good on a three pointer by senior guard Korie Mathis with 7:55 to play in the opening stanza. The game remained a one-possession affair until Emmanuel closed out the stanza with a 10-0 run to carry a 21-10 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Saints opened the second frame with a 7-0 spurt to extend the run to 17 consecutive points, stretching the lead to 28-10 before Moravian senior Kayla Yoegel (West Chester, Pa.) drained a hoop to make it 28-12. Yoegel scored the Greyhounds first 12 points while the rest of her squad struggled from the field early on going 0-for-18 from the field to begin the afternoon.
  • A triple by Jackie Kelly (Norwood, N.J.) pulled Moravian to 35-23 with 2:13 to play in the half before Emmanuel ended the period with consecutive hoops to hold a 39-23 lead at the break.
  • The Saints put the game away with a 9-0 flurry to open the third quarter, moving the lead to 48-23 and the Greyhounds never pulled closer than 18 points as Emmanuel cruised to the 69-50 win to claim the Tip-Off crown.
