THE LEAD – Emmanuel College held on for a 74-66 road victory over Connecticut College Saturday morning at the Luce Fieldhouse in New London, Conn. The win moves the Saints to 4-0 while the loss drops the Camels to 1-3 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening quarter, the Saints jumped out to a 10-7 lead following a bucket by senior Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) with 6:03 to play before the Camels answered with a 9-0 run (16-10). D'Agostino closed the quarter's scoring with a hoop to make it a 16-12 game through one quarter of play.
  • EC regained the lead at 17-16 with a three by graduate Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) midway through the second before a 4-0 flurry by the Camels made it 20-17 with 3:02 to play in the half.
  • Over the final three minutes of action, the Saints closed the half strong with the help of a full court press and some sharp shooting from downtown. EC rattled off 12 straight points to build a 29-20 lead before senior Emily Tripp (Westport, Mass.) broke up the streak with a layup before the halftime buzzer to account for a 29-22 halftime score in favor of the visitors.
  • Emmanuel led by as many as nine early in the third before the Camels stormed back to tie the game at 39-39 on a free throw by first year Caitlin Donadio (Clinton, Conn.). The Saints closed the third on a 6-2 spurt, carrying a four-point 45-41 lead into the final stanza.
  • A three by senior Korie Mathis (Duluth, Ga.) extended the Saints lead to nine at 56-47 with 5:46 remaining in regulation but again the host Camels battled back with a 9-0 run to even the game at 56-all on a three by Molly Cronin (Wellesley, Mass.) with 3:31 left.
  • EC answered with a 7-0 run to build a 63-56 lead with less than a minute to play and the Saints made their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 74-66 road win.
