THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team posted a pair of 3-0 wins Saturday afternoon against Northern Vermont University – Johnson in non-conference action inside Carter Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 1)

  • EC never trailed in the opening set, cruising to the 25-13 win and followed it up with a .538 attacking percentage in set two with a 25-14 win.
  • The Badgers hung around in set three all the way to a 21-21 score before the Saints closed out the match with a 4-1 flurry to win the set 25-22 and the match, 3-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED (MATCH 2)

  • Five straight points late in the opening set turned a 19-14 score into a run-away as Emmanuel posted the convincing 25-15 win to get the match started.
  • NVU responded with a 10-7 lead to open the second set before the Saints scored five straight behind the service game of junior Daniel Keyes (Fall River, Mass.) to take the lead for good in  25-19 final.
  • Once again, EC never fell behind in the final set of the day but the hosts certainly made it interesting by battling to an 18-17 score before Emmanuel rattled off four straight to pull ahead 22-17 en route to the 25-19 win and sweep.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Saints first-year Jyles Amirault (Andover, Mass.) led the team with 14 kills on the day.
  • Senior libero Tyler Behsman (Derry, N.H.) tallied 24 digs
  • Junior setter Roman Fabrizio (Salem, N.H.) dished out 47 assists including the 500th of his career to go along with nine aces in the two wins.

UP NEXT

  • The Saints are off now until Wednesday, March 2 when they host Rivier University in GNAC action at 7:00 PM.
  • The Badgers have an even longer layup, staying idle until Saturday, March 5 when they'll travel to SUNY Poly for a 2:00 PM contest.
