Women's Volleyball Scores Straight Sets Sweep Over Norwich

BOSTON – Emmanuel Saints women's volleyball returned home from a four-game road trip and claimed a straight sets win over the Norwich University Cadets on Tuesday night on Yosinoff Court in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Saints participated in their annual Dig Pink Match, collecting donations for the Side-Out Foundation and the Dana Farber Institute.

The Saints improve to 12-5 (5-2 GNAC) with the victory while remaining unbeaten at home this season, sitting at 8-0. The Cadets fall to 1-15 (0-5 GNAC) with the loss.

In the opening set, the Saints hit a match-high .364 from the floor, to go along with 16 team kills, on the way to a 25-18 set win. A 7-0 run through the middle of the set took an Emmanuel two-point lead to a 15-6 advantage. Norwich closed to within four but
the final three points belonged to Emmanuel, capped off by a kill for first-year Letitia Bossou.

The Saints came out charging in the second set, claiming nine of the first 10 points of the frame. The Saints produced set point after a 7-2 run made it 24-11. After Norwich took the next five points, a Cadets error would end the set in favor of Emmanuel, 25-16.

In the final set, the Saints used two separate 5-0 runs to pull away, clinching the straight sets sweep. Emmanuel hit .188 with nine team kills in the 25-20 set win and straight sets sweep.

Saints first-year Madison Sherman led all players with eight kills on the night, hitting .538 from the floor. Bossou finished with seven kills on just nine attempts to hit .778 in the match. Senior Dejaliyah Srimouksavanh added a team-high three aces to go along with seven digs.

Cadets senior Abby Kanaga had a team-high seven kills while hitting a team-best .188 on the night. Sophomore Katie Finn had five kills and a match-high 14 digs.

The Saints are back in action tomorrow night, hosting Rhode Island College in a non-conference match on Yosinoff Court at 7:00 p.m. The Cadets stay in the conference, hosting a tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 19 with Rivier and Johnson & Wales competing with Norwich.
