BOSTON – Emmanuel men's soccer boosted their winning streak to four games and their unbeaten streak to seven, after a 4-0 Senior Day victory over the Mitchell Mariners on a picture-perfect fall Saturday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Clemente Field.
The four-game winning streak is the longest since the 2021 season while the seven-game unbeaten streak, that has seen the Saints go 5-0-2 over that span, is the longest unbeaten run in team history. Saturday's win moves the team to 8-4-2 (7-2-2 GNAC) while the Mariners fall to 2-12-1 (2-9-0 GNAC).
Prior to the game, Emmanuel celebrated the Class of 2025 for Senior Day.
David Gydus, Pedro Vasquez, RJ Darrell, Josh Huckans, Nicholas DiPace, Joey Soucy, Owen Lindenmayer, and
Richie Hickson were all recognized for their contributions to the program over the last four seasons.
The Saints broke through in the 25
th minute with first-year
Jacob Beck drawing a penalty kick for Emmanuel. Junior
Joe Anderson stepped to the spot and delivered with a shot into the left-side netting, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.
The advantage doubled just before halftime in the 40
th minute with a through pass by Beck and a finish by junior
Ryan Ragosta giving the Saints a 2-0 edge. Ragosta just beat out the Mitchell goalie in a race to the ball as the forward's toe-poke tally increased the lead.
Three minutes after halftime, Soucy found the net for his first of two in the second half, lifting the Saints to a 3-0 lead. The senior forward turned on his left foot and fired a left-footer just inside the right post for his first of the afternoon.
Soucy returned to the goal column in the 64
th minute, receiving a pass in behind the Mitchell defense from first-year
Shane Lazorchak. Soucy set himself and fired a right-footed blast that broke through the Mariners goalie and into the net, giving Emmanuel a 4-0 lead.
With his two-goal afternoon, Soucy became just the fourth player in program history to reach the 50-point plateau, doing so with a career of 21 goals and eight assists.
Sophomore
Aristidis Stefanis got the start for the Saints and made a pair of crucial saves to keep the momentum with the Saints. First, in the 50
th minute, Stefanis turned away a shot with a kick save off the left leg. Then again in the 61
st minute, after turning the ball over, Stefanis made up for the error with yet another left-leg save, keeping the clean sheet alive.
From the penalty spot, the Saints are a perfect 5-for-5 this season while Anderson has converted on four tries. Stefanis made three total saves, improving to 4-1-0 with the win.
Mitchell sophomore goalie
Jesse Jenkins made nine stops for the Mariners as he drops to 2-9-1 this season.
The Saints have three games remaining in the regular season and welcome Dean to Clemente Field on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:00 p.m. for a GNAC kick. The Mariners carry on with a trip to Albertus Magnus on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. conference match.
