BOSTON – Returning from a six-day break, the Emmanuel Saints men's basketball team fell to the No. 16 Tufts Jumbos, 86-51, on Monday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center in non-conference play.
The Jumbos fell from No. 8 to No. 16 in the latest D3Hoops.com poll just before Monday's tip. Tufts moves to 6-1 with the lone loss to No. 8 WPI. The Saints are still searching for their first win, dropping to 0-7.
The Saints held serve with the Jumbos through the opening 10 minutes of the game, shooting 8-for-17 at the start, leading to an 18-18 tie with 10:06 to go in the half.
The second half of the opening frame belonged to the Jumbos with their shooting rising to 60 percent for the half, as Tufts finished the final 10:06 stretch by outscoring the Saints 36-10. Junior
James Morakis led the charge with nine points in the half-ending run while the Jumbos made 10 of their last 14 field goals, helping the visitors to a 44-28 halftime lead.
Tufts would resume their run in the second half, taking their largest lead of the night thanks to a 27-4 run over the span of 11:10 for a 39-point lead. The Jumbos shot 46.2 percent in the second half on the way to an 86-51 victory over the Saints.
A dozen different Jumbos scored on Monday, led by the 23 points of junior
Scott Gyimesi, who shot 10-of-14 from the floor to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. Morakis finished the night with 18 points and six rebounds while sophomore
Dylan Reilly added 11 points, including 3-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

Noah Beaudet led the team with 12 points in 33 minutes. Fellow sophomore
Cameron Snowden added a season-high nine points in 30 minutes. Junior
Vondre Chase finished with six points and a game-high 10 boards.
Emmanuel will look for their first win on Wednesday, Dec. 4, as they host Connecticut College at 7:00 p.m. on Yosinoff Court. Tufts returns on Wednesday to host Keene State on Tye Court at 7:00 p.m.
