BOSTON - Saints Women's Volleyball (4-2) continued their hot streak on Wednesday night in the Jean Yawkey Center, earning a sweep (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) over Fisher College (2-2) to tally their fourth straight victory. The contest marked the Saints final tune up before beginning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday after competing in six non-conference matchups to begin their 2024 campaign.
Back-and-forth scoring began the Wednesday evening tilt, but three straight points from the hosts gave Emmanuel some breathing room at 8-4. Later in the set, an ace from juniorÂ
Isabella Marquez grew the Saints lead to six at 16-10. The Falcons were unable to get within less than five for the remainder of the set, and six Emmanuel kills over the last seven points secured a 25-15 first set victory for the hosts. First-year
Kason Huynh provided the assist on all six of the kills to help the hosts take a 1-0 edge in the match.
After back-to-back service aces from from Fisher's
Edsyl Irizarry and a Saints error, the visitors jumped out to an early 8-4 lead as they looked to level the match in the second set. Trailing 13-11 later in the set, Emmanuel went on a 9-2 run to lead 20-15. The visitors tallied the next two points, but a 5-0 run from the hosts, capped off by back-to-back kills from Marquez, concluded the set at 25-17 with the Saints taking a 2-0 match lead.
Two straight kills from first-year
Frances Ramos Rodriguez pushed the Saints lead to 12-5 midway through the third frame. With the score 20-11 later in the set, the Falcons rattled off five straight points to cut the lead to four as they looked to extend the match. Emmanuel responded, winning five of the last six points through two kills from Huynh, two kills from Marquez, and a Falcons error. The late run secured the Saints fourth straight victory with a 25-17 third set win and a sweep over Fisher.
Marquez led the Saints attack with 14 kills while also leading the Saints with 11 digs. First-years
Amber Hong and
Letitia Bossou added seven kills for the hosts while Huynh tied her career-high in assists (set on Saturday, 9/7) with 38.
Alicia Tkach finished with 10 kills and Irizarry added 21 digs to lead the Falcons in the loss.
Up next, Fisher will head to Wellesley College on Saturday (9/14) for a 2:00 PM contest. Emmanuel will return to the Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday when they open GNAC competition in a tri-match with Johnson & Wales and Colby-Sawyer, set to begin at 10:00 AM.
