BOSTON - A game-tying goal in the 88th minute from
Pierre-Paul Labossiere secured shared points between Albertus Magnus and Emmanuel on Wednesday night at Clemente Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The 3-3 draw marked the first time this season that the Falcons (3-4-1, 4-0-1 GNAC) have dropped points in conference play. The Saints moved to 3-4-1 overall, remaining .500 in conference action at 2-2-1.
The Saints got off to a rapid start when just 17 seconds into the match, first-year
Jacob Beck found the back of the net off a feed from
Cam Naples that beat the Falcons back-line. Emmanuel remained in control for over the next five minutes when
Rafael Matamoros found himself on the end of a beautiful through ball from
Aaron Picker. Matamoros beat the goalkeeper who was charging off his line, doubling the Saints lead. It was the first career collegiate goal for both Beck and Matamoros.
Despite both sides having chances throughout the remainder of the half, the score held at 2-0 as the halftime horn sounded.
Emmanuel clung to their 2-0 advantage for the first 15 minutes of the second half, but Albertus Magnus stormed back.
Anthony Barreira cut the lead to just one in 61st minute to begin the comeback for the visitors. After a corner kick in the 75th minute,
EJ Gonzalez found the back of the net to knot the game at two. Just over two minutes later, the Falcons were able to take a 3-2 lead through a
Johan Stagnaro goal off a pass from
Morgan Stone.
Looking to salvage a point, the home side charged forward with just over two minutes left to play.
Pierre-Paul Labossiere received a ball from
Joe Anderson, burying the dramatic equalizer to tie the game at three. Neither side was able to create another chance for the remaining 120 seconds, ending the match in a draw.
Emmanuel out-shot Albertus Magnus 13-10, but the visitors tallied more corner kicks with five versus the Saints' three.
David Lucero played all 90 minutes in goal, posting five saves for the Falcons.
Maddox Pierce stopped two shots in net for the Saints in his 90-minute outing.
Up next, the Falcons will return to Massachusetts for a GNAC matchup with Elms on Saturday (9/28) at 5:00 PM. The Saints will make their way to Henniker, N.H. for a GNAC contest with New England College on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
