Goal in Final Minutes Lifts Men's Soccer Over New England College, 2-1

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's soccer team dropped a tough-fought matchup against visiting Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.

THE BASICS
Score: Emmanuel: 2, New England College: 1
Records: Saints: 4-4-1, 3-2-1 GNAC | Pilgrims: 3-3-3, 2-2-2 GNAC

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Pilgrims had an early scoring chance when a shot from sophomore midfielder Santiago Sanchez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) was blocked, allowing for a junior forward Noel Huliselan (Jakarta, Indonesia) corner kick.
  • The Saints dominated the next 18 minutes in possession until Pierre-Paul Labossiere found the ball right up front and hit the back of the net.
  • Emmanuel and New England College traded scoring chances until the end of the first half and to start the second when the Pilgrims started to get into yellow card trouble.
  • With just 20 minutes to go, the Pilgrims started a barrage of shots at the Saints. Missed shots from sophomore outside back Erik Corbin (Marlboro, Mass.) and Sanchez paid off as Huliselan came in with the header to tie things up.
  • The Pilgrims kept attacking until Jacob Beck tracked down a long pass from Joe Anderson to escape NEC defenders and give the Saints a 2-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Labossiere and the Saints racked up 17 shots with nine on goal to the Pilgrims' fourteen shots and eight SOG.
  • Emmanuel's Maddox Pierce and senior goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) both finished with seven saves apiece.
  • The Pilgrims couldn't capitalize on their six corner kicks, while the Saints scored both of their goals off corners.

UP NEXT

  • NEC is back on the field on Wednesday, October 2, when they host the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Don Melander Field at 4:00 PM.
