Women's Soccer Draws Colby-Sawyer, 3-3, to Open GNAC Play

BOSTON - In their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match of the 2024 campaign, Saints Women's Soccer (2-0-1, 0-0-1 GNAC) battled Colby-Sawyer College (1-2-1, 0-0-1 GNAC) to a 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon at Clemente Field. The Saints held a 3-2 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining, but a Chargers goal leveled the match at three and neither side was able to find a winner throughout the remainder of the contest.

The home side catapulted into the lead thanks to a 20th-minute goal from junior Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.). Hailey Goodman (Blackstone, Mass.) swung a ball in from the right side, finding Dullaghan in front of goal for a 1-0 Saints advantage.

10 minutes later, Libby Tennant (West Simsbury, Conn.) doubled the lead for the Saints. An in-swinging free kick from Liz McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.) bobbled around the box before popping up in front of Tennant, who fired a volley high into the back of the net. Emmanuel was able to blank the Chargers throughout the remainder of the half, bringing a 2-0 edge into the break.

The Chargers came out firing in the second half, looking to play themselves back into the match. Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.), the GNAC's leading scorer from a season ago, cut the Saints lead in half just 86 seconds out of the break.

The Saints were able to regain their two-goal advantage 20 minutes later. Dullaghan found herself in front of goal after a big save from the Chargers goalkeeper for her second tally of the day. The goal marked the All-Conference forward's fifth of the season, topping the list of goalscorers in the GNAC.

Colby-Sawyer continued to look to cut into the Saints lead once again, and did so through Maddy Minckler (Claremont, N.H.) in the 76th minute. The Chargers, again, found the back of the net just three minutes later. Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) fired a long-range shot that was just above a leaping Gaby Baker (Grafton, Mass.) to knot the match at three.

The visitors nearly found a winner through O'Connell with just seconds remaining, but Baker came off her line for a game-saving stop as time expired to end the match in a 3-3 draw.

Up next, the Chargers will return home for a matchup with the defending GNAC Champions, Johnson & Wales, on Wednesday (9/11) at 2:00 P.M. The Saints return to Clemente Field on Wednesday to continue GNAC play with Regis College at 7:00 P.M.
