Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Emannuel men's soccer held off a second half surge from Albertus Magnus to win 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match up.
The Saints (5-2-6, 3-2-3 GNAC) got on the board early in the opening period when freshman,
Lucas Silvia scored on an assist from
Benjamin Anderson in the 10th minute of action. The Falcons (7-5-1, 4-3-0 GNAC) had an opportunity a few minutes later when a header shot from Lorenzo Lauria hit the post. Neither side found another first half opportunity and the Saint held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After some back and forth, Albertus Magnus answered at the 77:26 mark on a penalty kick by Aiden Coelho.
Rafael Matamoros responded in the the 80th minute scoring unassisted to give the Saints the 2-1 edge. The Falcons would have two more opportunities to even the score, but both shots by Rafael Antonio went sailing over top of the goal.
The physical contest featured 10 fouls on the Saints and 11 on the Falcons. Emmanuel was issued 7 yellow cards in the win.
