STANDISH, Maine - Emmanuel men's soccer was unable to break through on Wednesday night while Saint Joseph's College of Maine took advantage of their few opportunities, as the Saints fell to the Monks 0-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
After neither side could capitalize through the first half of action, SJC's Mattheus Silva made the most of one his of three shots, attacking from the left side and sliding the ball past Saints keeper
Owen Silva into the bottom right corner, and giving the Monks a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute. Then, in the 65th minute, the Monks sent a dagger into the back of the net off the foot of Zander Haskell, to put the Saints behind 0-2.
Despite both teams getting equal opportunities, the Saints were unable to find the back of the net against SJC keeper Logan Davis, who stopped all eight Emmanuel shots on goal in the win. The Monks also stopped seven corner kick opportunities by the Saints.
Emmanuel moves to 5-3-6 this season, including 3-3-3 in the GNAC. The Saints are back in action on Saturday, October 18 as they travel to Elms for an 11:00 a.m. conference match.
