Women's Volleyball Boosts Win Streak to 16 Matches in 3-1 Win vs. Mitchell

BOSTON - Now just one match shy of matching the program record for consecutive wins, Emmanuel women's volleyball claimed its 16th straight victory, staying perfect in conference play with Thursday's 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20) victory over the Mitchell Mariners in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Yosinoff Court. The win moves the Saints to 21-1 (7-0 GNAC) as the Mariners fall to 7-9 (1-6 GNAC) in defeat.

After splitting the opening two sets to start the night, Emmanuel bounced back in the third to take back control. After trading the opening points of the third frame, Emmanuel used a 9-1 scoring streak to pull away from the Mariners and take a 17-10 advantage. Mitchell closed to within three on multiple occasions, but a set-ending kill by sophomore Julia Haight gave Emmanuel the set, 25-19.

In the fourth, the Saints were off to a quick start, winning the first five points to lead wire-to-wire in the set. The Mariners again battled back to a close as three at the end of the set, but a Mitchell serve into the net clinched Emmanuel's 16th consecutive victory, as the home side took the fourth frame 25-20.

Sophomore Letitia Bossou continued her run as an offensive force, leading all players with 18 kills while hitting .389 on the night. Haight ended her night with 11 kills and two aces, while senior Isabella Marquez chipped in with eight kills on a .316 attack percentage. Junior Scheala Nielsen filled the stat sheet with 19 digs, five assists, three aces, and two kills.

For Mitchell, Molly Wordell finished with a team-high 11 kills on the night. Genna Hyde ended the night with the match's only double-double, going for 10 kills and 12 digs in the loss.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, with a trip to Colby-Sawyer for an 11:00 a.m. match. The Mariners head for a tri-match on Saturday, traveling to Husson to face the Eagles and Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
