CHICOPEE, Mass. - After falling behind early, Emmanuel men's soccer battled back to claim a 2-1 victory at Elms College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
The Saints struck first, early in the19th minute, taking a 1-0 lead When Luis Pimentel's shot found the back of the net on an assist from last week's GNAC Rookie of the Week, Lucas Silvia. Emmanuel's early goal forced Elms to chase, taking three unsuccessful shots before Dru Fairthorne scored the equalizer at the 41:25 mark to tie the score at 1-1 heading into the half.Â
Emmanuel continued to press in the second half, creating numerous scoring opportunities but struggling to find the breakthrough against Elms goalkeeper Jack Bousquet, who made several key saves throughout the match. The Saints' persistence finally paid off when they leveled the score at 1-1, setting up a tense finish.
With time running out, Saints senior, Jacob Beck, delivered the decisive moment. In the 89th minute, Beck found the back of the net to give Emmanuel a 2-1 lead. The late goal proved to be the difference as the Saints held on through the final 90 seconds to secure the victory.
Saints first-year goalkeeper Owen Silva earned the win.Â
The Saints improve to 6-3-6, 4-3-3 GNAC as they return home to host the final home contest of the season on Tuesday night at 7:00pm in a conference matchup against Regis College.Â
