STANDISH, Maine. – Emmanuel College women's soccer continues its dominant run, posting a shut out for the fourth straight game. The Saints blanked Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday evening on the road in Standish and improve to 10-3-3, 9-0-2 GNAC.
Emmanuel got out to a hot start, capitalizing on its first opportunity just shy of the three minute mark. Senior Sarah Dullaghan crossed the ball to Liz McCormick on the wing, who sent the ball sailing into the upper right hand corner of the goal. The Saints got several looks at the goal in the net few minutes and connected for the second time at the 8:16 mark when Paige Letourneau cut back on her defender and sent the ball past the keeper to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Two minutes later, Aleena Solano got in on the action, netting one of her own and giving Emmanuel a 3-0 advantage just 10 minutes into the contest.
The Saints wouldn't score again until early in the second half. Monks keeper Ashlyn Guerette made a tough save on the initial shot by the Saints, but Dullaghan was able to sneak in and net one off the rebound. Finally Letourneau notched her second score of the evening late in the 58th minute. Dullaghan went out on a breakaway and crossed the ball into the center of the field where Letourneau was waiting to send it past the keeper and make it 5-0 Saints.
Letourneau is on a tear, scoring two goals in the last four consecutive contests. The Saints defense continues to impress, only allowing the Monks one shot opportunity to Emmanuel's 32 (20 SOG).
The Saints' next test awaits at Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, October 25 at 3:00p.m. in New London.
