NEW LONDON, Conn. - Emmanuel men's soccer was could not capitalize on Saturday afternoon in a 4-0 loss at Mitchell College in the regular season finale. Mariners' goalkeeper, Gabriel Tiene, made an impressive 11 saves to keep Emmanuel off the scoreboard in the match.
Mitchell got out to an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute, and despite dominating time off possession and out-shooting the Mariners 30 (11) to 12 (8), Emmanuel could not capitalize on any opportunities. Neither side scored again through the first half.
Both sides had equal opportunities in the second half until Mitchell was able to slide one past Saints' keeper
Owen Silva, and just about one minute later, Sean Khan had the dagger for the Mariners to make the lead 3-0. Mitchell would put one more home in the 90th minute to close the contest with a 4-0 win over the Saints.
Emmanuel closes out the regular season with a winning record of 7-4-6 and 5-4-3 in the GNAC. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals is scheduled for Saturday, Novemeber 1 with opponent, time and location TBA.
