Women's Volleyball Wins Program-Record 18th Consecutive Match in 3-1 Senior Night Triumph vs. Regis

BOSTON - Emmanuel women's volleyball broke a nearly two-decade-old record on Friday night, winning their 18th consecutive match, claiming a 3-1 (25-12, 17-25, 25-21, 25-23) win over the Regis Pride on Senior Night from Yosinoff Court in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Saints improve to 23-1 (9-0 GNAC) with the win, while breaking the previous winning streak record from the 2006 program, which lasted 17 matches. Regis falls to 13-12 (6-2 GNAC) in Friday's defeat.

Prior to the start of the match, Emmanuel celebrated the careers of seniors Maeve Gaffny and Isabella Marquez in a Senior Night ceremony.

With a dominant performance by Emmanuel in set one, leading to a 25-12 win, and the Pride responding with an equally excellent performance in the second, claiming the frame 25-17, the teams headed for the third tied at a set apiece.

In the third, the set came down to the final points of the frame, as the set headed into crunch time with the score tied 20-20. Marquez helped the Saints take control with three kills in four points, giving Emmanuel a 23-21 lead. Ultimately, the Saints would finish the frame on a 5-1 run, capped by a combo block for Marquez and sophomore Madison Sherman, as the Saints took the third, 25-21.

The fourth set was all Regis for the vast majority, as Friday's GNAC match looked destined for five sets at Yosinoff Court. The Pride led 23-20 until the most impactful scoring run of the night, a 5-0 surge by the home team, closed out the set and match for Emmanuel. The Saints trailed by three, but a pair of Marquez kills and a setting error on Regis tied the set at 23-23.

Coming out of a timeout, with the next point critical to both teams, junior Kason Huynh seemingly committed a service error, but an early whistle instead indicated that the Regis serve receive was out of rotation, meaning the point went Emmanuel's way. Now on match point, a combo block by Sherman and sophomore Letitia Bossou finished the set, 25-23, in favor of the Saints.

Marquez finished with a team-high 17 kills, while becoming the 12th player since 1994 in team history to record 1,000 career points responsible for; a combination of kills, aces, and blocks. Bossou added 15 kills on a .278 attack percentage. Sophomore Julia Haight chipped in with a dozen kills and 10 digs.

Regis's Grace Fabiano had a team-high 10 kills to go along with eight block assists. Eva Catalanotto had eight kills for the Pride, while three other visitors had six kills on the night.

The Saints return to play on Thursday, Oct. 30, facing Rivier for a GNAC match at 7:00 p.m. on Yosinoff Court. The Pride head to Western New England on Wednesday, Oct. 29, for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
