Women's Volleyball Wins 19th Straight, Remains Perfect in GNAC With 3-1 Victory Over Rivier

BOSTON - Emmanuel women's volleyball stayed unbeaten in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) thanks to a Thursday night win over the Rivier Raiders, 3-1 (25-23, 25-15, 16-25, 25-22) on Yosinoff Court. With the win, the Saints improve to 24-1 (10-0 GNAC) this season and grow their program record winning streak to 19 matches. Emmanuel's 24 wins on the year are the most since the 2014 season. The Raiders drop to 14-13 (8-3 GNAC) in the loss.

In the opening set, Rivier found themselves out in front early, holding a 12-7 edge. Emmanuel fought back quickly with five straight points, tying the frame 12-12. The battle for control ran through the remainder of the set, as neither side led by more than three. The final points of the set broke in Emmanuel's favor, as two kills by sophomore Letitia Bossou lifted the Saints to a 25-23 set win.

In the second, Emmanuel opened with five of the first six points and never looked back. A 7-1 scoring surge through the middle of the set kept the momentum with the home side, as the Saints boosted their lead to 14-6. In total, Emmanuel combined for 16 team kills, hitting .282 from the floor, on the way to a 25-15 win.

In set three, the frame started similarly to the first, with Rivier hopping out front to a 12-7 advantage. Just like the opening set, the Saints battled back, eventually tying the set at 16-16. But, on this occasion, the Raiders would close on a hot streak, shutting out the Saints for the rest of the set, at the visitors closed on a 9-0 run, claiming the third set with a 25-16 win.

The fourth set began with the Raiders out in front, claiming five of the first seven points. Emmanuel erased the early deficit by the middle of the fourth and used a 7-2 run to break away from Rivier with an 18-14 edge. The Raiders fought back to within a point late in the set, but a Bossou kill, setting up match point, followed by a combo block for sophomores Madison Sherman and Julia Haight, lifted the Saints to a 25-22 set win.

Senior Isabella Marquez finished with a season-high 20 kills, hitting .265 on the evening. Bossou added a dozen kills while Haight chipped in with 11 kills, seven digs, and two aces. Junior Kason Huynh finished with a season-high 48 assists while fellow junior Scheala Nielsen led all players with 24 digs.

For the Raiders, Ali Rivera finished with 11 kills and 18 digs, while Callie Nanos added 10 kills and seven digs. Setter Lily Seibel ended the night with 36 assists, 12 digs, three kills, and three block assists.

The Saints return to play on Saturday, Nov. 1, as they travel to Saint Joseph's College for a 12:00 p.m. serve. The Raiders are back on Saturday, hosting New England College at 11:00 a.m.
