Men's Soccer Stumbles on Senior Day in 2-1 Loss vs. Colby-Sawyer

BOSTON - Two early first half goals by the Colby-Sawyer Chargers were too much to overcome for Emmanuel men's soccer on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints fell 2-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from Clemente Field. The win boosts the Chargers to 2-6-3 (1-3-2 GNAC) while the loss drops the Saints to 3-2-6 (1-2-3 GNAC).

Prior to the start of the match, Emmanuel celebrated the careers of Joe Anderson, Gabriel Eduarte, Pierre Paul Labossiere, Adrian Pena, Maddox Pierce, and Ryan Ragosta in a Senior Day ceremony for the Class of 2026.

It took two minutes for the Chargers to get on the board, as Colin Riley-Perec sent in a cross from a free kick that bounced in the penalty area and was fired home by Fallou Mbengue, giving the Chargers a 1-0 lead.

The Colby-Sawyer advantage doubled in the 10th minute courtesy of a corner kick goal. Riley-Perec swung in a cross that Pierce was unable to keep out of the goal, as his punching clear attempt went into his own goal, lifting the Chargers edge to 2-0.

Emmanuel got one back in the 18th minute with sophomore Jacob Beck creating space for a cross into the box from the right wing. His cross found the foot of Labossiere, who steered an attempt into the back of the net, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Labossiere nearly struck again just two minutes later in one of the Saints best opportunities to even the match. Another cross into the penatly area was headed toward goal, but the header hit the crossbar and came out, keeping the Chargers ahead at 2-1.

Despite an intense amount of pressure, including outshooting Colby-Sawyer 16-3, the Chargers held off every effort by the Saints, on their way to spoiling Senior Day in a 2-1 win.

Labossiere's 18th-minute goal is the second of his season, while Beck picked up his second helper of the campaign. Pierce made his second start of the season, falling to 0-1-1 in defeat.

The Saints return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 7, as they host Lasell University at 7:00 p.m. in GNAC action. The Chargers are also back to play on Tuesday, traveling to Fitchburg State for a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.
