Women's Soccer Surrenders Three in Second Half, Falls to No. 23 Amherst, 3-1

BOSTON - Emmanuel women's soccer led for the majority of the match on Monday night, but three goals in the second half by the No. 23 Amherst Mammoths pushed the visitors to a 3-1 victory over the Emmanuel Saints in non-conference play from Clemente Field. The 23rd-ranked Mammoths improve to 7-2-2, while the Saints loss drops them to 6-3-2.

The Saints needed 75 seconds to find the back of the net as an Amherst turnover set up the game's opening tally. Junior Ciara Horan was the beneficiary of the turnover, crossing a ball in from the left wing that was flicked on by senior Sarah Dullaghan. The redirection froze the Mammoths goalie as the ball found the right-side netting, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Emmanuel's one-goal lead would hold for 52 minutes until the Mammoths found the equalizer in the 54th minute. Off an Amherst corner kick, a loose ball in the penalty area was laid off by junior Katie Pedersen to the foot of senior Katie O'Reilly. From 25 yards out, O'Reilly fired a one-timer into the top-right netting, squaring the match at 1-1.

Just 10 minutes later, in the 64th, the Mammoths struck again, taking a 2-1 advantage in the process. A shot on target by sophomore Caroline Coletti produced a rebound for senior Brooke Ingemi, who took full advantage of the opportunity, sliding a shot into an empty net, putting Amherst ahead.

The Mammoths added insurance in the 68th minute, scoring their second goal of the night off a corner kick. Coletti sent in a cross to the back post to the head of senior Kate Quigley, who knocked it in from close range, giving Amherst a 3-1 lead.

Emmanuel had a handful of opportunities to pull within one in the final minutes, the best coming on a half-volley by Dullaghan, but her left-footed strike was right at the keeper, as the Saints fell 3-1.

The pair of Coletti assists are the first two of her season, while O'Reilly and Quigley found the back of the net for the first time in 2025. Ingemi's 64th-minute tally is the second of the season for the senior and her first game-winning goal of the campaign. Senior goalie Lulu Fickes made five saves in the Amherst goal, improving to 7-2-2 on the year.

Dullaghan's second-minute tally gives her a team-leading eight this season. Horan's helper puts her in a three-way tie for the team-high in assists this season with three. Sophomore Teigan Robie stopped four shots on the night, falling to 6-3-2 in defeat.

The Saints return to play on Wednesday, Oct. 8, hosting Norwich for a conference match at 7:00 p.m. at Clemente Field. The Mammoths have a week off before heading to Tufts on Tuesday, Oct. 14, for a 4:00 p.m. match.
