Men's Basketball Falls Short in Non-Conference Loss, 90-77, to Williams

BOSTON - The Saints (3-2) fought hard on Andy Yosinoff court on Saturday afternoon but couldn't quite get it done as the Ephs of Williams College (4-0) pulled away late to secure the 90-77 victory.

Emmanuel was up to the challenge early on in this one, as after the teams were trading buckets, a booming dunk by Junior forward Mahari Guerrier gave the Saints a quick 11-5 advantage. The lead was not given up until a contested three from Williams forward Jackson Rein put the Ephs in front 23-20.

With just under seven minutes to go in the first half, the Ephs held a 30-27 advantage, that was until first year guard Danny Adams continued his blazing start to the year, hitting his first of two three pointers within a span of 60 seconds. The second one, put the Saints back in front as Adams crossed over and buried a deep three as the shot clock expired.

The teams continued to trade baskets the rest of the first frame, and Williams College took a slim 44-43 advantage into the locker room.

The second half was a continuation of the tight, back and forth affair that unfolded in the first half. Williams continued to try and build some distance in this one, as they held a 60-56 lead early in the second half, when first year guard Manny Duran tipped in a missed layup through contact, bringing Emmanuel within one.

Williams continued to keep the Saints just barely at bay, holding between a three and six advantage most of the second half, as Emmanuel was getting a lot of their baskets off solid two man actions, including Guerrier and Adams. With the highlight being a beautiful drop off pass off a pick and roll, to Guerrier as he threw down his second dunk of the game.

Unfortunately, Emmanuel started to run out of gas late, as an 11-0 Ephs run unfolded over the course of six minutes. The Saints were not able to recover, as Williams pulled away for good.

Guerrier and Adams combined for 41 of the teams points today, with 21 and 20 coming from the duo respectively. Junior guard Noah Beaudet also added in 11 points, to go along with four boards and an assist. Junior forward Cameron Snowden made his season debut today, providing good energy off the bench to go along with a pair of free throws.

The Saints return to action when they travel to Amherst College for a 5 pm tipoff on Tuesday night, the beginning of a four-game road trip.
