MILTON, Mass. - Emmanuel women's basketball held the Curry Colonels to 1-of-9 shooting in the second quarter, as the Saints outscored the Colonels 22-5 over the 10-minute frame, on the way to a 79-63 victory on Saturday evening from Katz Gymnasium in non-conference play. The win moves the Saints to 3-2 this season, while the loss drops Curry to 1-4.
After the opening bucket of the second quarter by Curry cut the Saints lead to 21-18, Emmanuel broke away with a 14-0 surge, capped off by a three-pointer for first-year
Kendyl Ouimette, as six different Saints scored in the run, helping the visitors to a 35-18 lead. The Saints stretched their lead to 22 by the end of the half, as they led 43-21 at the break.
Emmanuel's lead grew in the third as a 15-4 run through the middle of the quarter, spanning 4:17, gave Emmanuel their largest lead of the night, 60-30. Improving on their run in the second quarter, seven different Saints scored as part of the 15-4 third-quarter run, which gave Emmanuel a 30-point lead.
Despite being outscored 24-14 in the fourth, the Saints cruised to their third win of the year, thanks to a 79-63 victory.Â
Four different Saints finished in double figures, led by sophomore
Tyra Blye, who scored a team-high 13 points. Junior
Geanna Bryant added a dozen points, five steals, and four assists in 24 minutes. Ouimette finished with a career-high 11 points, while sophomore
Eliana Jackson chipped in with 10 points.
Curry's
Lauren Dunn had a game-high 15 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the foul line.
Lauren Morse had 13 points in 31 minutes, while
Kasey Reeves added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Saints break for Thanksgiving and return on Tuesday, Dec. 2, hosting Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m. The Colonels play the second of a three-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 25, hosting Hamilton at 6:00 p.m.
