Men's Lacrosse Picks Up Third Consecutive Win Following 15-7 Victory vs. Regis

BOSTON – With a career-high six goals by sophomore Cooper Mehlhorn, the Emmanuel men's lacrosse picked up their third straight win, defeating the Regis Pride, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from Clemente Field.

With the win, the Saints move to 3-5 (1-0 GNAC North) this season while the loss drops Regis to 1-5 (0-2 GNAC North), as they have lost three consecutive games.

The Saints used a 5-2 first quarter to set the table in Saturday's victory. Mehlhorn and senior Ryan Etzo got the scoring started with goals scored 1:27 apart.

Pride senior Anthony Marsella answered back to cut the deficit to one, but the next three goals favored Emmanuel as junior Samuel Yan and two more goals by Mehlhorn boosted the Emmanuel lead to 5-1. Regis senior Brandon Cook beat the horn at the end of the quarter, as the Pride trailed 5-2 after a quarter.

The Saints extended their advantage with another five-goal quarter in the second. Mehlhorn and Cook traded goals, making it 6-3, before the Saints scored the final four goals of the period. Mehlhorn added another pair of goals in the run to go along with tallies by first-years Kyle Schmitz and Gavyn Freiberger, leaving the Saints ahead 10-3 at the half.

Another five goals came for the Saints in the third quarter, including the first three of the period, scored by junior Ethan Madura and seniors Evan Decker and Sanzio DiGesualdo, giving Emmanuel a 13-3 edge. The sides traded two goals each to end the third while the Pride scored two in the fourth quarter, as the Saints claimed the 15-7 win.

Mehlhorn's career-high six goals came on seven shots while adding a ground ball and a caused turnover. DiGesualdo added one goal and four assists while Decker finished with four caused turnovers. First-year goalie Colby Enos played 35:06 in the Saints goal, picking up the win to move to 3-4 this year.

Cook scored a hat trick for the Pride while adding an assist for a four-point day. Sophomore Jack Jaynes finished with a pair of goals in the loss. Marsella matched the point performance of DiGesualdo, finishing the day with one goal and four assists.

The Saints take a week off before returning to play on Saturday, March 29, traveling to Norwich for a 1:00 p.m. game. The Pride host Thomas on Wednesday, March 26, at 4:00 p.m.
