NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Scoring the first 11 goals of the night, Emmanuel men's lacrosse cruised to their fourth straight win, beating the Norwich Cadets on Friday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from Sabine Field.
With their fourth consecutive win, the Saints improve to 4-5 (3-0 GNAC, 2-0 GNAC North) while the Cadets fall to 3-6 (1-3 GNAC, 1-1 GNAC North).
Outscoring the Cadets 6-0 in the opening quarter, the Saints jumped out to a big lead through the first 15 minutes. Junior Cole Cloney opened the scoring with back-to-back goals scored 40 seconds apart. Sophomore Cooper Mehlhorn was next to score before first-year Braxton Bragg netted a natural hat trick, scoring the final three goals of the frame, leading to the Saints 6-0 edge.
Another five goals came for the Saints in the second quarter with five different scorers opening up an 11-0 lead for Emmanuel. The shutout fell in the final seconds with Jake Marcotte beating the halftime horn for the Cadets.
Emmanuel led by as many as 13 in the second half, thanks to a 15-2 advantage early in the fourth. Norwich went on to score five in the final quarter, bringing down the final score to 17-7, Saints.
Cloney and Bragg each scored four goals for the Saints. Mehlhorn finished the night with two goals and three assists while senior Sanzio DiGesualdo finished with two goals and four assists for a team-high six-point performance. First-year goalie Colby Enos won his fourth straight decision, moving to 4-4 this year.
Marcotte and Drew Fleury scored two goals a piece for the Cadets while Marcotte added four assists to finish with a team-high six points. Mason Dils made 16 saves for the Cadets, but takes credit for the loss on Friday,
The Saints return to action on Wednesday, April 2, hosting Saint Joseph's of Maine for a GNAC North Division match at 7:00 p.m. The Cadets host New England College on Tuesday, April 1, at 4:00 p.m.
