BOSTON – Back on Andy Yosinoff Court for their final home match of the season, the Emmanuel College men's volleyball team picked up their fifth straight win with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-11) Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Dean College Tuesday night inside the Jean Yawkey Center.
With the win, the Saints improve to 16-10 overall and 8-3 in the GNAC, while the Bulldogs drop to 3-21 and 0-12 in conference action.
Senior
Louis Da Silva set the tone early for the Saints, starting the match with a powerful kill off a feed from first-year
Jehuda Tawalujan. Emmanuel quickly built a 4-1 lead behind two more kills and a Dean error. Holding an 8-5 advantage later in the set, the Saints pulled away with an explosive 10-1 run highlighted by six kills and three aces, leading to a 25-10 win to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
After falling behind 5-4 early in the second set, the Saints responded with another surge to take control. A Bulldogs error sparked a 7-1 run that featured two kills from sophomore
Cayson Branconier and another from sophomore
Carlton Cummings. Dean was able to cut the deficit to two but could not close the gap any further, as Emmanuel jumped ahead 2-0 with a 25-18 second set victory.
With the third set knotted at three, a 5-0 Saints run, jumpstarted by a kill from sophomore
Joshua Duncan, gave Emmanuel an early 8-3 lead. After a stretch of back-and-forth play, back-to-back kills from senior
Thor Yingling ignited another 5-0 run, putting the set out of reach for the Bulldogs. The Saints closed it out with consecutive aces, rolling to a 25-11 win and completing the sweep of Dean.
Yingling led the Saints' attack, matching his season high with nine kills. Tawalujan fed the hitters with 25 assists, marking his 11th match of the season with at least 20, while also setting a career high with five service aces. Emmanuel posted a season-best 16 aces and hit an impressive .411 on the night, their second-highest hitting percentage of the season.
For Dean,
Noah Allan recorded five kills,
Hunter Armitage contributed 10 assists, and
Arthur Felicio added eight digs in the loss.
Up next, the Saints travel to Elms on Thursday (4/3) at 7:00 PM, before closing out the regular season with a Saturday (4/5) tri-match at Emerson, starting at 11:00 AM with Rivier. The Bulldogs return home for their final two regular season matches, taking on Lasell Thursday at 7:00 PM and wrapping up the season with Regis on Saturday, also at 7:00 PM.
