WINTHROP, Mass. – Emmanuel men's volleyball placed three student-athletes on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Teams, headlined by the Defensive Player of the Year honors for senior
Louis Da Silva.
The senior middle blocker also earned a spot on the GNAC First Team. Da Silva is joined on the First Team by junior
Michael Shelley, while junior
Trey Guest took home a place on the GNAC Second Team.
Nick Sciabica represented the Saints on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Da Silva, a walk-on as a first-year in 2022, becomes the first Saints men's volleyball player since 2016 to win one of the GNAC's Player of the Year awards and is the second Saint to ever be named the Defensive Player of the Year.
The Marseille, France native finished the season with 1.177 blocks per set, leading the GNAC and ranking third in NCAA Division III in blocks per set. His attack percentage of .431 was good for 11
th in the nation. In single-season team history, the .431 attack percentage is the best in program history, while the 1.177 blocks per set is the second-best ever in the program.
Shelley made his second straight GNAC First Team after another successful year as one of the best outside hitters in the conference. His 3.95 kills per set led the GNAC while his 324 total kills were third-most in the league. The native of San Francisco, Calif., Shelley ranked inside the top 10 in attack percentage, total blocks, and blocks per set.
Guest broke into the GNAC Second Team following a breakout junior campaign, as he earned his first All-Conference honors this year. Guest ranked fifth in kills per set in the GNAC this season at 2.93, while an efficient .261 hitting percentage placed him sixth in the conference.
The Saints finished the season 19-12 (10-4 GNAC), ultimately losing to Lasell in the GNAC Semifinals in straight sets. The .714 winning percentage in GNAC play is the best percentage since 2013 when the Saints finished 12-2 (.857) in conference play.
