11-Goal First Quarter Propels Women's Lacrosse Past Saint Joseph (Conn.), 19-5

BOSTON – On a cold and windy Wednesday night at Roberto Clemente Field, the Emmanuel Saints women's lacrosse team opened with a stunning 11 first-quarter goals to roll past the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 19-5, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The win improves the Saints to 9-6 on the season and 8-1 in GNAC play, while the Blue Jays drop to 3-11 overall and 2-7 in the conference.

Following an early Saint Joseph penalty, Emmanuel got on the front foot, with junior Madeline Wright converting less than a minute into the game to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Wright doubled her tally at the 12:49 mark before Blue Jays junior Alana Picard pulled one back for the visitors just 13 seconds later.

Following the Saint Joseph goal, Emmanuel began their 9-0 scoring surge to close the quarter that featured eight different Saints finding the back of the net. Junior Avery Robillard was the only Saint to score twice during the run, as Emmanuel took control with an 11-1 lead after 15 minutes.

Looking to cut into the hosts' advantage in the second period, Picard broke the Saints' run with her second score of the evening at the 12:11 mark. First-year Kaylynn Lapointe followed with a Blue Jays tally two minutes later on a free-position shot. The two sides each added another goal over the remaining ten minutes, with Wright completing her hat trick for Emmanuel before sophomore Anna LeGault got on the board with 38 seconds left for the visitors. Heading into the break, the home side remained in control with a 12-4 lead.

Emmanuel continued to build on its lead in the third period, tallying seven goals while keeping the Blue Jays off the board. This time, six different Saints contributed to the scoring run, with senior Dejaliyah Srimouksavanh the only player to score twice in the frame. LeGault added another goal for the visitors in the fourth, but Emmanuel closed out the game with a 19-5 win.

Wright led the attack for Emmanuel with five goals, followed by Robillard and Srimouksavanh, who each recorded hat tricks. Robillard also contributed a game-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win. Picard and LeGault each scored two goals in the loss for the Blue Jays.

Up next, Emmanuel returns to Roberto Clemente Field on Saturday (4/19) for a Senior Day matchup against New England College at noon. Saint Joseph will face Lasell in a divisional matchup, also scheduled for Saturday at noon.
