Women's Volleyball Moves to 10-1 With Pair of Straight Set Wins Over Albertus Magnus, Lesley

BOSTON – Emmanuel women's volleyball improved to 10-1 on the year and grabbed their first conference win of the campaign, thanks to a tri-match sweep on Saturday at the Jean Yawkey Center. A pair of straight-set wins, first in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play against Albertus Magnus, was followed by a victory over non-conference foe, Lesley.

In the opening match against the Falcons, the Saints combined for 45 total kills, a season-best for a three-set match.

An early first-set deficit was erased with the help of a 10-1 run, on the way to a 25-21 set win. Emmanuel was dominant in set two, scoring 14 of the final 15 points in a 25-9 victory. The home side needed a late comeback in the final set, but closed on a 6-1 surge to win the third 25-22.

Junior Scheala Nielsen finished with a match-high 13 kills to go with six digs. Fellow junior Kason Huynh stuffed the stat sheet with seven kills, nine digs, and 18 assists. Senior Isabella Marquez and sophomore Letitia Bossou each added nine kills.

In the second match of the day, the Saints held the Lynx to single-digit scores in all three frames. Emmanuel scored 16 of the final 17 points in the first set to win 25-5. A 12-2 start to the second set helped the Saints to a 25-8 victory. A final 8-0 stretch in the third created plenty of distance for a 25-8 third set win.

First-year Ayla Evans finished with a career-high seven kills to go along with seven aces and eight digs. Sophomore Amber Hong and first-year Sofia Petrucci each had five service aces, contributing to a total of 21 aces from the Saints in match two.

The Saints wrap up a three-match homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 24, as they welcome Salem State to the Jean Yawkey Center for a 7:00 p.m. match.
