FRANKLIN, Mass. - A pair of second-half tallies got Emmanuel men's soccer back in the win column while claiming their first victory in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, thanks to a 2-1 result over the Dean Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon at Longley Field.
The Saints improved to 3-1-4 with the road win and have won the last two meetings between the sides. The Bulldogs fell to 2-5-2, including 1-3-0 in GNACÂ play this year.
Emmanuel opened the scoring in the 59th minute, using a free kick opportunity to get on the board. A cross into the box bounced around loosely, while a failed clear found Saints sophomore
Samuel Cote at the penalty mark. With a right-footed shot, Cote's attempt avoided three Bulldogs bodies between him and the goal, finding the net, for a 1-0 lead.
The advantage doubled in the 71st minute as sophomore
Jacob Beck tallied the eventual game-winner. From 25 yards out on the left side, Beck cut inside on his right foot. Continuing the cut, the second-year forward fired a shot into the bottom right corner, lifting the Saints to a 2-0 edge.
Dean pulled one back in the 84th minute, getting back within a goal, as
Nate Potter redirected a cross from the right side, past the Saints keeper, putting the Bulldogs down 2-1 with six minutes to play.
Cote's 59th-minute tally is the first of his career, while Beck netted his second of the season and seventh of his career. First-year goalie
Owen Silva made eight stops in the net for the Saints, improving to 3-1-2 on the season.
The Saints roll on with more GNAC action on Saturday, Sept. 27, as they travel to the University of Saint Joseph for a 12:00 p.m. kick.
