WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — In a gritty match up on Saturday afternoon, Emmanuel's men's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw against Saint Joseph.
The Saints (3-1-5, 1-1-1 GNAC) struck first in the 14th minute when senior defender Rafael Matamoros converted a penalty kick to give Emmanuel the lead, his second goal of the season. Both sides traded opportunities while defenses held firm and Emmanuel held the lead at half.
In the 50th minute, Saint Joseph's (4-3-1, 3-0-1 GNAC) responded when Mario Milardo found the back of the net off an Emmanuel Ofori assist to even the score. Neither squad could break the tie, despite several chances. Emmanuel put up 13 shots (8 on goal), while the Blue Jays edged the shot count with 19 total shots (7 on goal). Saints keeper Owen Silva recorded 6 saves.
Emmanuel will continue conference campaign at home on Wednesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Norwich University at Roberto Clemente Field.
